Day 1
Addis Ababa - Debre Libanos - Portuguese Bridge - Addis Ababa
After breakfast, depart Addis Ababa and drive north through the Ethiopian Highlands, passing rolling hills, traditional villages, eucalyptus forests and rural life. Visit Debre Libanos Monastery, founded by Saint Tekle Haymanot in the 13th century, and explore the monastery museum, ancient religious manuscripts, sacred crosses, church treasures, beautiful church architecture and Ethiopian Orthodox heritage. Continue to the Portuguese Bridge for Jemma River Gorge canyon views, scenic walking trails, the waterfall viewpoint and wildlife observation. Look for Gelada Baboons, Verreaux's Eagles, Lammergeiers and endemic Ethiopian birds, then have lunch near the gorge before returning to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.
