Day 1

Arrival in Addis Ababa

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, meet your Ethio Origins Tour representative and transfer to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a city tour of Addis Ababa, including the National Museum, Ethnographic Museum, Trinity Cathedral and the bustling Merkato. Drive to Entoto Hills for panoramic views of Ethiopia's capital city.

Day 2

Addis Ababa - Axum

Fly to Axum, the ancient capital of the powerful Axumite Kingdom and one of Africa's most important archaeological sites. Visit the Northern Stelae Field, the Archaeological Museum, the Tombs of Kings Kaleb and Gebre Meskel, and St. Mary of Zion Church, believed by Ethiopian Orthodox Christians to house the Ark of the Covenant.

Day 3

Axum City Tour

Spend a full day exploring the wonders of Axum. Discover the ruins of the Queen of Sheba's Palace, the Ezana Inscription, ancient reservoirs and archaeological treasures that reveal the glory of one of the world's earliest civilizations.

Day 4

Axum - Tigray Churches

Travel through the dramatic landscapes of Tigray and visit some of Ethiopia's remarkable rock-hewn churches. Explore ancient monasteries perched on cliffs and hidden among the mountains while learning about the region's deep religious heritage.

Day 5

Tigray - Mekele

Mekele - Axum | Historical Exploration

Day 7

Axum - Bahir Dar

Fly to Bahir Dar via Addis Ababa and transfer to your lakeside hotel or resort on the shores of Lake Tana. Relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while taking in beautiful views of Ethiopia's largest lake.

Day 8

Lake Tana Monasteries

Take a scenic boat trip on Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. Visit selected monasteries such as Ura Kidane Mehret, Azwa Maryam, Mehal Zege Giorgis or Bete Maryam, depending on local timing and access. These churches are known for colorful murals, ancient manuscripts and sacred treasures. End the day with a sunset visit to Bezawit Hill overlooking the Blue Nile River.

Day 9

Blue Nile Falls - Gondar

Drive to the magnificent Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tis Issat, or Smoke of Fire. Enjoy a countryside walk and admire one of Ethiopia's most famous natural attractions. Return to Bahir Dar for lunch before continuing to Gondar, stopping at the unique Awra Amba community along the way.

Day 10

Gondar Historical Tour

Visit Kuskuam Palace, built by Empress Mentewab during the 18th century. Continue to the Royal Enclosure, Fasil Ghebbi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring castles and palaces constructed by Ethiopian emperors. Explore Fasilides Castle, Iyasu Palace, Dawit Hall, Mentewab Castle and Debre Birhan Selassie Church, famous for its ceiling decorated with hundreds of angel faces.

Day 11

Simien Mountains National Park Excursion

Drive to Simien Mountains National Park, one of Africa's most spectacular mountain landscapes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided hike through dramatic cliffs, valleys and escarpments while looking for Gelada Baboons, Walia Ibex, occasional Ethiopian Wolves and numerous bird species. Have lunch at a high-altitude lodge before returning to Gondar.

Day 12

Gondar - Lalibela

Fly to Lalibela, Ethiopia's most famous pilgrimage destination. Visit the first group of UNESCO-listed rock-hewn churches, carved directly from solid volcanic rock during the 12th and 13th centuries. Explore Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Meskel, Bete Danagel and Bete Golgotha. In the afternoon, participate in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony and learn how injera, Ethiopia's staple bread, is prepared.

Day 13

Lalibela Exploration

Choose between two excursions: hike or ride mules to Asheton Maryam Monastery for views over Lalibela and the surrounding highlands, or visit Yemrehanna Kristos Church, one of Ethiopia's most beautiful cave churches. Continue exploring Lalibela's southern group of churches, including the iconic Bete Giyorgis.

Day 14

Lalibela - Addis Ababa - Departure

Fly back to Addis Ababa and visit the National Museum, home to the famous 3.2-million-year-old fossil Lucy. Enjoy time for last-minute souvenir shopping before attending a farewell cultural dinner featuring traditional Ethiopian cuisine, music and dances from various ethnic groups. After dinner, transfer to Bole International Airport for your international departure flight. End of tour.
